Dolpo Amchi Namgyal Rinpoche & The Preservation of Sowa Rigpa Tradition
About Upper Dolpo Region
Nestled in the remote Himalayan district of Dolpa, the Upper Dolpo region remains far from the reach of state services and facilities. Among these, health services are particularly scarce, with limited government presence from the past to the present day.
The Role of Amchis in Dolpo
For generations, Amchis — traditional herbal doctors — have served the people of Dolpo free of charge, using local herbs and ancient wisdom. One such revered figure is Dolpo Amchi Namgyal Rinpoche, who has dedicated over 36 years to providing traditional healthcare in the Upper Dolpo through Sowa Rigpa, the ancient Tibetan system of medicine.
